You can make just about any meal in a cast iron Dutch oven. Here are some of the meals we have made over the years on our camping trips.
Our Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Oven is by far the most versatile and most utilized item in our camp kitchen. ($109.95 on the Lodge website)
We have made so many amazing meals in our 10 quart Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Oven, it is seasoned to perfection. It is so versatile we make almost every meal we eat at camp in our Dutch oven, from cookies to lasagna to oatmeal to pizza!!
It’s definitely a must have for any type of camping experience. We have cooked with it on coals, over an open fire and on our propane stove. One of our go to cookbooks for fantastic Dutch oven recipes is “The Camp Dutch Oven Cookbook” which can be found by clicking on the link or by going to the “Camp Cookin'” tab on menu bar. It’s filled with great recipes and there is also a section on how many coals to use underneath and on the lid to get the oven to the desired temperature. It’s a great resource to have around camp when we are making our meals – even for our own makeshift recipes.
Another must have is the lid lifter as the lid will get extremely hot, especially for recipes that call for coals to be placed on top of the lid. ($14.95 on the Lodge website)
