Morro Bay

Morro Bay – 7/4/18-7/6/18

We started tiny trip number 3 on July 4th after waking up that morning and deciding we didn’t want to wait another day to start our weeklong journey. I really wanted to watch fireworks from the beach so….. Justin, being the accommodating sort of fella he is, said “sure babe” and got online to book that night at an RV Park in Morro Bay since Morro Strand was fully booked. The RV Park was fine

for a night, across the street from the beach and super close to Morro Rock, the huge volcanic plug rising out of the water. We pulled in right at sunset and got to the beach in time for fireworks. The beach is pretty and covered with sand dollars!

The next day we checked in to Morro Strand. It’s basically a parking lot right next to the beach with 81 spots. Next time we would book sites 17, 27, 35, 37, 39, 41, or 43, which are on the beach side and have views. It’s not the prettiest of campgrounds but the location makes up for that. They have flush toilets, but for showers you need to go to Morro Bay State Park Campground. Dogs are not allowed on that beach but are allowed on the beach a short walk north of the camp.

We’ve been so excited about taking out the new 3 person kayak Chelan Aquaglide Tandem XL we recently got and Morro Bay was the perfect place for the first launch. You can park on the Embarcadero and it’s just steps to the water. They have bathrooms right there too. We packed a lunch and paddled over to a secluded beach & picnicked. Sato is really starting to adjust to the kayak. This one is very stable for an inflatable and only takes a few minutes with the foot pump to inflate and is plenty big enough to fit the three of us and a small cooler.

After a fun day in the kayak we headed to Sycamore mineral springs  to soak in the natural open air hot springs, relax and star gaze. A perfect end to a perfect day!
