Kandace’s Teardrop fascination started after she read a Sunset Magazine article about a woman and her Teardrop.
Here is Kandace’s story: When I discovered I could possibly tow this adorable little camper with my car, take my dog and hike all over the Bay Area and then crash in my camper that night, I was so intrigued. I grew up tent camping but hadn’t done much since I was a kid. Spending time outdoors in this modern day, fast pace life really started to appeal to me; however, pitching a tent and sleeping on the ground, did not! So…the research on teardrops began, but it wasn’t until I started dating my boyfriend, Justin, that it became a reality. Early on in our relationship, I pitched the idea to him. To my surprise, he was open to spending a weekend in a 4 x 6 foot tiny camper (btw, he’s 6’1). We looked on airbnb and found a super cute rental. The owners towed it to Costanoa for us and we had a blast! It was a little small for us especially because we knew we wanted to include my 70lb dog, Sato, on future trips. After our Costanoa trip, I did some more research and found Trail Hawk Campers located in Sutter Creek, CA and in less than two months I had a custom built tiny wooden trailer to call my own!
Since then we have traveled all over California spending more than 40 nights in our wooden teardrop “Edie”. During the lockdowns in 2020 however, we decided it was time to go a little bit bigger and found another tiny trailer that we fell in love with – a vintage 1986 fiberglass U-Haul camper! This little gem was in need of some TLC but fit our needs perfectly. The next evolution is putting our own personal touch on “Poppy” and taking her from 1986 to a sleek modern 21st century look. Check back often to check on her progress…….
In 2021, we sold “Poppy” and upgraded to a vintage Airstream we named Olive – restored her inside and out and in April 2022 embarked on what some may say is the new American dream…..traveling the country taking in as many bucket list sights as we can.
