After several weeks of go go go, it was time for what we like to call the three R’s – Rest, Recharge, and Reset (for Kandace there is a 4th R – Read. Perhaps she will do a post soon on all the books she has read). Although we are not working, and it may seem like we are on a perpetual vacation, this journey is much more than sinking our toes in the sand and sipping on Pina coladas every day ;-). Sure, we have had our vacation moments here and there however most of our days are filled with exploring, educating ourselves on the local area, strenuous activities, and lots of driving! Not to mention taking care of mundane chores like laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning and maintenance of the camper and of course documenting our activities on social media, personal journals, and this blog, so our stop at Thompsons Lake Campground was the perfect opportunity for us to Rest for a few days, Recharge our batteries and Reset both physically and mentally.
Other than heading into Schenectady to do laundry, we spent the rest of our time chillin out at camp.
Thompsons Lake Campground at Thatcher State Park is a huge campground with the following features:
- 139 sites – all primitive – no hook ups.
- Great nature trails among the trees.
- Fun medium sized lake with a sandy beach with roped off swimming area, kayaking, and fishing.
- Fresh water fill-up stations throughout the campground.
- Ice and firewood for sale. Special note – this was the biggest bundle of firewood we have ever seen. They give you a huge sturdy bag that’s 2 feet by 3 feet in size and you can put as much firewood in it as you can carry for just $7! Best deal on firewood anywhere in the country!
- Bathrooms and showers.
- Dump site.
We had an awesome site right next to the swimming beach just steps away from the water. It was a perfect spot for us to pump up our kayak and spend some time swimming and fishing.
Cheers,
