Tiny Trailer Trips Goes Big

Here. We. Go!

After years of 3 to 4 day camping trips…..wish us luck as we embark on a 9 month trip across the country taking in all the sights we can imagine!

Several years ago we had rented a teardrop trailer and spent a weekend in Costanoa in Pescadero, CA.  Little did we know that this one event would evolve into one day owning a vintage Airstream and embarking on a trip of a lifetime.

In the summer of 2021, we decided to start looking for a slightly bigger camper that would still check the box of being unique with a sprinkle of charm – oh and a bathroom.   We had recently refurbished our last camper so the search was on for something that had most of the upgrades already completed.  We found a perfect fit for our needs on airstreammarketplace.com, called the seller and secured the camper with a down payment.  Unfortunately, many things were falsely advertised and almost everything that could go wrong did go wrong. The good news is that we have spent the past 9 months fixing what the seller did wrong and now we know without a doubt that she is truly ready for summer camping.

Our trip was originally scheduled to start on 4/4, but getting ready for a trip like this is a huge undertaking and we underestimated how difficult it is to pack up our lives in a short period of time. Kandace sold her house and her salon and stopped working at the end of February and I wrapped up my 10.5 year career with Pandora on April 1st. We sold all our furniture, put everything else in storage and packed everything else into a 20 foot trailer and Ram 1500.  We learned very quickly it is not as easy as we thought.  But with no jobs and a relatively flexible schedule, we gave ourselves an extra day to wrap everything up before we shove off to our first stop.

We will be posting here often logging our favorite experiences of this trip, meals we cook at camp and eat in town, favorite camp spots and providing insights along the way.

You can follow our path on the 2022 Camping Map tab which will be updated with links to each campsite we visit.

One last thing before we sign off…..  How did Olive get her name?  Well, on our first date we both ordered the same drink, which happened to be a favorite for both of us. The drink was a dirty martini (she prefers Grey Goose and it’s Tito’s for me). As a homage to our first date and drink, we decided Olive would be a fitting name so “Olive the Airstream” was born.

Off to our first stop – Lake Siskiyou
